MUSIC VIDEO OF THE WEEK: LUPIN BY DONGKIZ

Updated: Oct 30, 2020

Now you may have thought of a flower when you read the title of our song. With 199 varieties of lupins it’s not surprising. However if you watch the music video you will be left wondering what this has to do with flowers or them saying that they’re going to steal your heart because, “I’m gonna be your Lupin”.

Well, the Lupin they’re referring to seems to be the fictional Arsène Lupin III, the grandson of the fictional gentleman thief, Arsène Lupin as it fits the MV better. A character created by Maurice Leblanc, as the world's greatest thief, known for announcing his intentions to steal valuable objects by sending a calling card to their owners. The Lupin III series was created in 1965 by Japanese manga artist Kazuhiko Katō under the pen name Monkey Punch. His inspiration for the series was the fictional French gentleman thief Lupin. The aim of the Lupin III series was to produce a comedy adventure series that reflected the traits of Leblanc's original character. Monkey Punch combined elements of Arsène Lupin with James Bond to develop the character of Lupin III and make him a "carefree fellow".

Dongkiz MV’s, like Lupin, Fever, and Blockbuster, have a strong story line and popular culture references which make them fun.

They recently wrapped up promotions for Lupin and were quite pleased with the variety they brought to the stage with the cane dance changing a bit each time.
