BOYHOOD takes you back in time with Retro Love
Updated: Oct 30, 2020

BOYHOOD (남동현) is an independent singer-songwriter, composer, producer, and musician.
BOYHOOD is the stage name for 21 year old Nam Dong-hyun (남동현). Dong Hyun had been introduced in February of 2018 as the new bassist for South Club (his brother Nam Tae Hyun‘s group which Tae Hyun founded after leaving YG and Winner) but didn’t stay long with the band as his bother dissolved the company and the group signed with a new label.

In 2019 he was a contestant on the survival show, Produce X 101, but was eliminated in episode 8.
He refined his sound and look for his debut as BOYHOOD on July 26, 2020 with the song Retro Love. This fun catchy song has a vibe which seems to have been inspired by AHA’s Take On Me and Snuper’s Platonic Love.
He seemed to have a lot of fun with his music show performances of Retro Love which showed his personality and stage presence. He was accompanied on drums by Bumjun, who is the leader of the band 2Z.
On his YouTube channel he takes you his journey to his solo debut with behind the scenes pre-debut footage of his self composed/produced song Retro Love. From designing a logo, filming a music video (in 33°C heat with Song Hanee in the role of girlfriend) and getting ready for a live music show, he invites you to see what it is like for a solo artist in this competitive Kpop market.
Check out how the music video came out.
He also introduced his new home to viewers as he filmed a tour of his studio and living quarters (in less time than it takes him to eat one slice of pizza) which includes his hand painted instruments like his keyboard and ukulele .
His latest song is inspired by what many of us are experiencing this year, the desire to travel but being stuck at home.
It will be interesting to see what’s next for BOYHOOD as more people discover his music.
